After graduating from Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s, Martin Margiela began to create fashion, initially in Paris for Jean Paul Gaultier. In 1988 Margiela created her own brand, Martin Margiela, and showed off her first collection. Margiela went against the "luxury fashion world" through her groundbreaking and original design, he is known for creating fashion with oversized fit, long sleeves as well as lining and seams on the outside of the garment. Margiela converted old items such as tablecloths and silk shawls into couture garments.
Maison Martin Margiela gives an insight into the design process where original and beautiful garments are created by a fearless designer. In the spirit of Margiela's fashion, the book is in itself a work of art. It has a white linen cover, silver color, ribbon marks and a variety of paper types.
